FREE CHALK ART COMPETITION FOR CENTRAL VALLEY HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
CLOVIS, Calif. – A free Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition for high school students will occur at Sierra Vista Mall in Clovis, Calif., on Wed., Oct. 21, from 4-6 p.m. The competition is one of the free activities happening at the larger Lights On Afterschool event.
The Sidewalk Chalk Art Competition will bring attention to the benefits of after school programs, as well as draw teenagers to these programs to become more involved. After school programs keep kids safe, help working families and inspire learning. They provide opportunities to help young people develop into successful adults. The theme for the chalk art drawings is “What is cool about afterschool?” The goal of the theme is to depict the positive things youth are doing afterschool in a realist or abstract style of sidewalk chalk art.
Local artists and guest judges for the event are Diane Breuer, Linda Lloyd Pitts and Phyllis Neufeld.
The Chalk Art Competition is presented by the Fresno High Marketing Academy seniors as a class project. The Lights On Afterschool event is presented by the Central Valley Afterschool Foundation, the Fresno County Office of Education and Sierra Vista Mall.
