Are You Ready for Battle of Dance II? |
It’s Saturday, May 15, 2010. Hundreds of afterschool students across Region VII will convene at Sunnyside High School's Performing Arts Theater for a battle. A dance battle, to be specific. Is your team ready for Battle of Dance II?
Support for dance education in our region’s high school programs is alive and strong. The newest region-wide high school afterschool dance competition builds on the success of the Lights On Afterschool ASSETS Best Dance Crew competition in October and the Battle of Dance event in Tulare County in February. Professional judges from the dance community will judge in two popular dance categories: Hip Hop and Cultural dance.
Applications will be available in mid-April and specifics will be communicated through ASSETS email blasts. Don’t miss this exciting way to teach your students about excellence, teamwork, showmanship, and sportsmanship. Contact Kim Boyer at

The After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens (ASSETS) Program At-A-Glance |
Here is a brief overview of the high school ASSETS program guidelines in California.
Grant Name 21st Century Community Learning Center’s After School Safety and Enrichment for Teens Programs (21st CCLC ASSETS)
Background The 21st Century Community Learning Centers program (21st CCLC), authorized under the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), received its first appropriation in 1996. In 2002, the California Legislature established the 21st Century High School After Safety and Enrichment for Teen Program (ASSETS) to address the specific needs of high school aged youth. California is unique among other states in that they have earmarked 1/3 of their 21st CCLC allocation to ASSETS (California Ed Code Sections 8420-8428 and 8484(h)).
